Gummy bugs we made from a kit. They had a lot of fun with these!
My girls picked out the Jam tart recipe from a kid's cookbook we have. I have to admit I still struggle with being completely "hands off" when the girls are cooking and baking. For some reason it was really hard on me to let these jam tarts be. I had a very strong urge to "fix" them so they would look like the sample in the picture. LOL! :) I am getting better though. These tarts were all them with no Mom interference and I think they turned out cute. They were very yummy too. My husband has requested that they make them again soon. :) I'll post the recipe. It was very simple for the girls to make.
3/4 to 1 cup flour
4 TBL soft butter
2 TBL cold water
pinch of salt
1/2 C jam
greased mini-muffin pans
round cookie cutter
tiny cookie cutters
1. Rub the flour, salt, and butter together so that it looks like crumbs.
2. Add the water. Cut in with a blunt knife to mix. Form into a ball.
3. Flour work surface. Roll dough to 1/8in thick.
4. Cut out 12 shapes with the round cutter.
5. Push the shapes into a greased pan. Put 2 tsp of jam into each one.
6. Cut out some shapes with the tiny cutters. Put one on each tart.
7. Bake the tarts for about 15 minutes at 400 degrees.
8. Be careful, as the tarts will be very hot. Leave them to cool on a rack.
Wait until the tarts are cold to eat them.
