Home Ballet

This is a program I intended to start with the girls a couple of years ago when we stopped traditional ballet classes. Megan, who loved ballet class, asked if we could do "home ballet". I thought it was a great idea! I had sat through enough beginner ballet classes to know it would not be too difficult at this level. I did some online research, made notes, got a couple of books and videos and then life happened and it got swept under the rug. This year we have finally got back to it and I'm so glad we did!

The photo above is a picture of the girls doing butterfly stretches during their class on Tuesday. We have class twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays around 4pm. Their Tuesday class is comprised of floor stretches and exercises and their Thursday class focuses on barre exercises. Ballet is really a great workout, and a great way to stay flexible. Right now they are following along with a dvd class. My goal is to choreograph a simple ballet routine the girls can perform next spring at a recital for family and friends. They love the idea of getting to preform and put to use the positions and steps they are learning. :)

Since ballet class is in our living room where we do not have a barre, the girls use the back of a chair for their barre. So far it has been working out nicely.

Colorful Bath Salt

The girls had fun making colorful scented bath salts for their bath last night. It's a really simple recipe with only three ingredients.

Epsom salts, essential oil (we used orange), and food coloring.

We started by pouring about a cup of Epsom salts in a plastic baggie. Then we added one drop of essential oil and one drop of food coloring.

Then we sealed the baggie and mixed it up.

It's fun to layer different colors in a glass jar.

The girls used theirs in their bath, but it would make a yummy smelling inexpensive gift too! :)
