I registered for an altered book class through Studio Calico called Happy Little Moments. It will be taught by the talented Maggie Holmes (one of my fave scrapbook artists). It is a self-paced class that starts March 1st.
They've put together an optional class kit that looks amazingly beautiful. But I really wanted to use up my own supplies. Those wonderful papers and bits that I have been hoarding instead of using. ;) So I went through my stash and put together my own class kit. Bonus- it only cost me $3 (for the book)! Here is what I came up with...

I added in some personal ephemera like the yellow parking stub and the tag from my bed linens set. I don't remember where I got the vintage crocheted mini doily but I think it's sweet.

I've been hoarding the vintage set of children's cards for years now...

I've had the Stampin' Up ribbon for quite a while too (back in the day when my friend Felicia was a demonstrator) though I have used some.

The papers and label stickers are mostly from Crate Paper's Emma's Shoppe line. One of my all time favorite collections! But the blue polka dot is practically vintage I have had it for so long. I don't even remember where I got it, but I loved it so much I didn't use it. Crazyness! I am trying to turn a new leaf and use up my favorite supplies.

Now I've got my class kit all ready to go in a crop bag. Just waiting for the class to start...

Over the weekend Megan went with me book shopping at the second hand store. I was looking for a pretty hardback to use as my altered book. My first find was The Elderberry Tree by Irving Petite. The dust jacket is lovely...

And I love the color of the cover!

But upon closer inspection I worried that it would be too cute to use. It was written in the early sixties, and the author was local. The book takes place in the Seattle area even! And look at the sweet illustrations...

Hello! An owl! :)
Hmm... I'm going to try really hard to use it. But just in case I can't bring myself to alter it's pages I found another book with a similar color cover but minus the Bambi cuteness. An Introduction To The Theatre...

And with that I think I am all set for class. Can't wait for it to begin!
