Bryant Community Church

This week we visited Papa and Nana and Auntie Brenda's church.

The church ladies help support a wonderful service project called Dress a Girl Around the World. They meet once a week to make pillowcase dresses for girls around the world in need of clothing. You can find out more information about local sewing groups on the blog Sew Delightful.

Isn't this the sweetest dress? And made from a pillow case!

I think this would make a great Keepers at Home project for the girls.

Nana and Violet...

Elsie was putting on a puppet show for Violet in the Sunday school room. :)

Auntie Brenda was the Sunday school teacher today. She helped the children make cute little books- "Because of Jesus we can be free from sin!", and helped them memorize Romans 6:23.

Everyone who could say their verse got a treat!

Thanks for letting us visit today!

Evergreen State Fair

It's been years since we've gone to the fair. We were reminded of this when the girls would say things like, "Fair? Have we ever been to a fair?" :) That combined with the suggestion to enter baked goods and crafts we decided this year we would go.

The girls (and Mom) were excited to see how they did on their entries. The first stop was building 500!

We found Katie and Megan's scrapbook pages hanging up on the wall.

Katie earned a blue ribbon for her page "Daddy at Work". Nice work Katie!

Megan earned a blue ribbon for her page "My Baby Sister". Way to go Megan!

Then we headed to the cake department. Emma earned a blue ribbon for her Double Chocolate Chip cake. Congratulations Emma!

Emma's is the cake in the middle.

We were glad Papa and Nana could come to see the girls' entries. They were proud of their granddaughters.

We spent a lot of time looking at all the beautiful cakes and arts and crafts. We had fun finding all our friends' entries too. I loved looking through the photography exhibits. Seth enjoyed looking through the art. Here Seth and the girls are watching an artist at work.

There were so many neat things to see! Here we're checking out some bees...

.
After the arts and crafts we were ready to see some animals. On our way to the fair Elsie was asking what animals would be there. She was most excited to see cats! Never mind that we see cats every day. :)

In the rabbit barn we saw rabbits, chickens, and pigeons.

When it was time to stop for lunch we found a nice shady spot under some trees. It was good to sit and rest. One of the best decisions I made was to bring my camp chair along (it fit nicely under the stroller). That way I could stop anywhere to nurse Violet and not worry about finding a comfortable place to sit. Backless benches are definitely not comfortable for nursing! lol!

We enjoyed listening to some good music during our lunch too!

After lunch we headed to the animal barns. First up was the pigs. Here's mama pig...

and her piglets...

The sheep barn was next. This big sheep was very vocal! It also looked like it wanted out of it's pen. :)

we saw alpacas...

and goats...

After the animal barns we went into the historical museum. There was so much to see at the museum. I don't remember stopping in there before.

Felicia being silly trying out the sock knitting machine...

Cute little toy farm...

This cracked me up! The side of the can said, "impervious to nuclear fallout"!

After the museum we went to the horse arena to sit and rest and watch the horses. It was nice and cool there but super DUSTY! I have never seen so much dust! We were thinking it might have been because we were there on the first day. No one had used the seats in awhile. I didn't dare bring out my camera. My lens would never have been the same. lol! All the girls enjoyed watching the horse competition. Elsie was so cute. "Look! They're riding the horses! When I get bigger maybe I can do that." We all left rested but looking like Pig Pen. :)

This was the cutest lemonade stand. It was shaped like a big lemon and looked like something out of Richard Scarry's Busytown. It was hot, and the lemonade tasted so good!

Next we headed to the rides. Seth wanted to take the girls on the big ferris wheel. The older girls went up with Daddy. Elsie wasn't big enough so we headed off to take her to a smaller ride, but she was so tired she fell asleep while Seth was carrying her. It was close to 4pm, and had been a long day.

Our last stop of the day was at the spud stand by the grandstand. When I think of the Evergreen State Fair, I always remember these curly fries. I think it's fun to watch them take a huge potato and cut it in one long curly strand and then drop it in the fryer. Mmm, salty goodness.

We had a fun, exhausting day at the fair. It was a great way to wrap up the Summer. The first thing we did when we got home was change and jump in the pool. It was such a hot day!
